On Friday 21st
November 1873 at a meeting held in the warehouse of Albion Works, Willenhall,
an elegant timepiece of rich and artistic design was presented to Mr. James
Ash of Perry Barr as a token of respect from his employers and workman on the
relinquishing the position he held at the above works.
Mr. Harper, The senior partner of the
firm in presenting the timepiece to Mr Ash said that he had been in his
employ upwards of seven years, and during that time by much satisfaction that
he (Mr Harper) very much regretted his leaving; and hoped that, whatever
situation he might be place, he would prosper. Mr Ash in responding said that having no
intimation of the presentation; he was able to thank them in the manner he
would wish. He had hoped to take their
very good wishes but had not expected to receive anything more from
them. A small shield on the front of
the timepiece was the following inscription.
“Presented to James
Ash as a memento of Esteem
From his fellow
clerks and employers”
November 21st
1873.
