HANDSWORTH HERALD July 12th 1905 On Tuesday the body of a baby was found in a cardboard
box in the Police Constable Wright said
he received the body and was present at the post mortem examination on
Wednesday. Dr. Adamson
of In answer
to Superintendent Pilliner, the witness said that he could not say whether
the child had been strangled before or after its separation from its
mother. He did not think it was
accidentally strangled. The coroner in
summing up thought there was not sufficient evidence to bring in a verdict of
willful murder against a person or persons unknown. The jury returned a verdict to the effect
that the child had died from strangulation, but when this occurred there was
no evidence to show. |

HANDSWORTH HERALD 5TH
MAY 1900
SUDDEN DEATH OF A HANDSWORTH CARTER
Mr. H. A. Pearson, coroner for South
Staffordshire, held an inquest at the Police Station, Thornhill Road,
Handsworth on Saturday, respecting the date of George Badham (52) Green
Lane. Henry Badham, shopfitter, Ann Poytree, the Malt House, Queslett, stated that on Thursday the 26th
ult, about 3 – 15 pm she was passing Mr. Greensill’s house in Mr William John Fitter, organ grinder, 23, Dr May, medical officer of health for Aston Manor, said
deceased was brought to his house about 3 – 30 in the afternoon. He was quite dead, and had been so,
apparently for about half an hour. The
post mortem examination disclosed no marks of violence. The neck was discoloured, but this was due
to post mortem causes. There were no
fractures of any kind. The heart showed
traces of an old standing disease of mitral valve. The wall of the right ventricle was rather
thin; the liver and kidneys were very much congested; the stomach was
congested; the lungs were normal, and there were no traces of
bronchitis. The cause of death
originated in syncope, and way possibly accelerated by sitting in a doubled-up
position. The fall had nothing to do
with the death. Police constable Elks, deposed to making the usual inquiries.
The Coroner in summing up, pointed out that the supposition that
deceased had broken his neck by a fall originated in the post mortem
discolourations.
The jury returned a verdict in accordance with medical evidence.
