HANDSWORTH HERALD                                        JULY 18TH 1891

Chas. Barrett of 12, Upper Branson Street, was fined 5 shilling including costs for using a catapult – PC Hull was informed that two youths were in the Walsall Road shooting at chickens with a catapult, he followed the captured the prisoner who had in his possession some stones and a lark which was injured and died almost immediately.  Defendant pleaded that he and his companion were walking along when the bird which had been shot, feel to the ground.  His companion picked it up and gave it to him.
