DART 12th August 1892 Mr W M Ellis has gone over to the majority. He was indeed a grand citizen, full of honour, ability and generosity. As a representative of a generation fast disappearing he was held in esteem and his shrewd wisdom will in places be sorely missed. |

Handsworth Herald October 8th 1896 Shocking Street Accident. On Saturday afternoon, between three and four O’clock, a young man named Frank Smith of Winson Street, Winson Green, accompanied by a companion went to catch a tram near Victoria Courts in Corporation Street for the purpose of witnessing a football match. The conductor, however, intimidated that the car was full, and the men attempted to recross to the footpath. In doing so Smith was knocked down by a cab which was, it is stated, being driven on the wrong side of the street. The point of one of the shafts caught him round the neck, causing a severe wound, from which blood flowed copiously. A police constable conveyed him a cab to the General Hospital. On arrival, he was in a state of collapse and he was of course, detailed. |
