HANDSWORTH HERALD                                        Sept 16th 1894.

A dangerous experience – Thomas Moss, eight years of age of Perry Barr was admitted into the General Hospital yesterday morning suffering from severe burns about the face and head.  The boy was left in the house by himself, and, for amusement it is believed, picked up a stick and lighted it at the fire.  He then found a can containing powder, to which he applied the lighted stick.  The result – quite a natural one, no doubt, was an explosion, and the boy sustained the injuries above mentioned.
